(2022) Original Artwork on paper size 58 x 40 inches. This felt like a luxury being able to work in such a large format again, it’s been a second. But I feel at home spending a month on the tiny details of something once so much smaller. I worked with my framers in New York City to present this original piece in its finest condition and framed the way I think looks best. This original artwork has been hand signed and dated as well as the edges hand deckled. It has been float mounted in a 1-inch deep white shadow box frame with museum-grade UV plexiglass and a 2-inch reveal. In plain speak, this treatment makes it look as if the paper is floating in the middle of the frame, neither touching the glass nor mount. The hand-torn edge gives softness to the piece and casts an organic shadow onto the mat behind it.
Context
Context
Contemplating if the sun-drenched sleazy 80’s are more my aesthetic counterpart than my modern surroundings. The days when we could freely objectify women, or at least the most beautiful women in Ibiza, and smoke to our big strong (male) lungs content. A continuation of my first vintage glossy“Entertainment For Men”, I’m blatantly and simply showing the backside of the Centerfold (commonly known as the most raunchy and important place of the magazine) and trying to show how far we’ve come. I don’t think this would fly today, or it would be a vape on the back cover and at least something more inclusive on the cover, too much to ask for “the most interestingWomenin Ibiza”? However, I will acknowledge - will it look as good? A little stereotype in a little nostalgia play goes a long way, takes me to a warm beach with a smooth dart and a good tan. Thankful for this timepiece, and thankful we’ve moved on.
Framing
Framing
Framed within a white shadow box frame with a floated mount and 2-inch reveal. With museum grade UV fitering plexiglass.
This is my favorite way to frame, the white wood is simple and clean and the shadow box/floated mount makes the paper appear floating, not touching the back board nor glass.
Framing is by the great team at Laumont Studio in NYC.
