Baguette

More iconic than the Eiffel Tower, maybe in fewer photographs but certainly not on my phone. The pleasure it gives me, when literally anywhere in France are the many, many people walking about their day, with one or three baguettes under their arms. The pleasure. The sight! Give us our daily bread, we pray. The French understood that, to a deep fundamental level. What else do you need? Good bread, good company, and a good pair of legs to get you from your apartment to the boulangerie and back, perhaps with a cigarette but it’s only advised, not compulsory. I had to give her a moment, start with the essentials. She only lasts a day, she can very easily be made for one, but she’s best torn and shared. The giver of life, the distinction of origins found in her shape. Life-size I have drawn her, in all of her glory and none of her embellishments, as God would’ve wished.
