(2022) Perhaps her most minimal piece thus far, “Filthy Rich” is an original drawing in Bella McGoldrick’s signature hyper-realistic style, this time rendered in an array of grays and clean shades. For this piece, McGoldrick scoured eBay for designer soaps that had long since lost their pleasant aroma and was also inspired by Henrik Pruienne's photographs and their hazy nostalgia. The resulting work is a comment on wealth and luxury, the upside-down dish plate and now-soiled soap asking the question: how practical are luxury brands in any use, let alone an old bar of soap?
