Breakfast in Saint-Tropez

Saint Tropez, in the south of France. Senequier, a family name, as the patisserie and cafe have been running for 140 years. As artists and writers began to flood the French Riviera, it became their staple. It is a family heritage location. One for the creatives, for the lovers, for those who enjoy time under the sun, time with good company and time to soak it in.

I shot the photo in direct sunlight rather than studio lighting, as I’m likely to do. This can be felt, the warmth, the pre-noon slant of the sun which casts these long and telling shadows. The day is young, and the coffee’s half drunk, the croissant, touched. I want to show the moment in action. It’s not without people who are enjoying it, in motion, to be in this moment whilst viewing it, rather than at a scene untouched.

A homage to the early mornings, to starting each day loving each other. To enjoy the world which lies before us, to more travel, to indulging in what that world has to offer. To paying your bills and to the rest of your lives together. Celebrating all the small things that make up a life.
