(2022) Pia, aka AIP, has built the most incredible jungle art studio in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica. I’ve been fortunate enough to work from there for the past 2 months. I couldn't just stand by whilst she painted, I needed to be involved. I adore painting. It’s a totally different experience from a pencil. It’s free, it's spontaneous, it’s slightly unpredictable, at least what I decide to stroke is unpredictable, and it’s sumptuous.

 Pia is an energy of Argentinian color and sunlight. Her essence is in each of her paintings. Being able to work in her glass box in the middle jungle, there’s no way not to be inspired by the strokes of color that line her canvases. The canvas is mostly Pia, the Papaya is my hand, she then stitches by hand the separate canvas letters and the papaya onto the canvas, and we have our artwork.

This piece is an amalgamation of my time in Santa Teresa, a place where the surf is endless, the monkeys howl, the people are all strangely beautiful and the fruit, well the fruit… this is no exaggeration that I’ve been on a diet of Papaya and mangoes for 2 meals a day since I arrived. Welcome to the studio in the jungle. With your paradise, we give you calmness. With this painting, we give you Santa Teresa.
